ISU Bat Center in the Media

We do a LOT of outreach in the ISU Bat Center. We are frequently invited to schools, libraries, and other places where people like to learn about new topics, like bats. We also talk to folks at ISU’s Earth Day, homecoming, and other similar events and we conduct field tours and workshops for biologists from around the state. Our big annual event to engage the community in caring about and understanding bats is the annual Indiana Bat Festival. We just hosted the 9th annual festival on the campus of Indiana State University in Fall 2015

One of the highlights of the 8th Annual Indiana Bat Festival was the performances by the Chiroptology Crew from Inspire Academy in Muncie, Indiana. Check out the Videos We Like link above to see their music video “The Bat (What Does the Indiana Bat Say?)”

A Visit to a Local High School – Scott Bergeson, PhD student,  and Dr. O’Keefe visited students in two Biology classes at South Vigo High School to present a program on Bats and Climate Change. Reaching out to local students is one of Scott’s commitments for a fellowship he received from the Indiana Space Grant Consortium. We had a great time interacting with ~60 students at South Vigo and their teacher, Katie Ellingsworth, who is a recent graduate of the Science Education program at ISU.
